Founder, School Coordinator, Technology Coordinator, Student Services Administrator, Teacher
Merry meet, and welcome to Witches' Hallow!
I'm Maeve Branwen, one of WH’s Founders and Coordinator of School. My job here is
essentially to keep it all together. As a teacher, my path is Wiccan, but I'm a Lunar loving
eclectic. I can be found in the Celestial Studies, Kitchen Witch, Spells, Sigils, Paganism and most Celtic courses.
My Magickal name has it's roots in Ireland. Maeve, meaning “she who rules" is derived from
Queen Maeve who was a legendary Irish warrior queen and known as a Goddess of love and
desire in Irish mythology. Branwen is Welsh for beautiful Raven. Both pay homage to my
heritage.
My heart has known I was a Witch ever since I was very young girl. I was raised Catholic in a
very strict religious home. I attended private, Catholic schools even into college. While I have
great appreciation for the church, it's traditions and pageantry, it simply wasn't an ideology I can
100% support. I have the gift of premonition, which I'm still learning to recognize and listen to.
Sometimes it is a blessing, and a curse. My husband refers to it as my “Spidey senses" and is
quick to remark when I've predicted something correctly. I struggle with ADHD and meditation
for me is rough. I prefer short simplistic guided meditations that I can easily maintain my focus.
Yes, I can distract easily!!
I practice mainly by the stages of Mother Moon, but adjusting my practice to be more inclusive
of Father Sun. If I had to designate a pantheon I am called to, it is the Celt's.
My mundane life: Most may know me as Susan Barnes. I've been married to my husband,
Richard, for 21 years. I'm a Mom to 3 boys, two I homeschool. My kids are also on the
spectrum so I'm well versed in academic learning challenges. We reside in the City of Sin with
our two Chihuahuas and Pitt Bull. I did finish graduate school earning an MBA for my efforts.
In my free time, I love cooking meals for people my heart holds dear. During the pandemic I
taught myself to crochet and it's how I spend most evenings relaxing. Otherwise, I'm a typical
middle age gal who loves to garden, read, and spend time with her family.
I hope you enjoy being a part of Witches' Hallow. May your time
with us, be it short or long, I hope you enjoy our school.
Merry Part,
Maeve
Arach Storm
Teacher
Hey there! I’m Arach Storm (some know the real me!) I’m not really sure what or how to put information here for a bio…so we’ll just do a quick history lesson on…ME!
I was raised Baptist but really started questioning Christianity WAY back in high school when I was going for my God & Country award in Boy Scouts (yes…I’m an Eagle Scout). My pastor at the time just kept telling me “To have faith…” when I questioned MANY MANY things! That wasn’t a suitable answer for my mind! While in high school…I was also a super jock. I went to college on a full football scholarship. However, with two bad neck injuries playing football in high school…that third one during two a day practices at college did me in. I was paralyzed from the waist down for 18 hours. They patched my neck up with some plastic injected into my vertebrae and that was the end of my football career. I finished out college with a BS in Biology and Chemistry, along with being Pre-Veterinarian. I joined the army to get the GI Bill to pay for veterinary school. However, at about the 2/3 mark of my 3 years sign up, I broke my foot…honorable discharge…back home! And was one month shy of being eligible for the GI Bill!! However, it was in the Army that I first discovered Wicca. One of my friends was a Wiccan Priest. Now…this was all before the internet was the behemoth that it is today…so he loaned me a book (can’t remember the name). But that started a tick in my mind that didn’t stop. Soon after, the internet became a thing! And I found a little information on Wicca (which was all I knew at that point). I’ve ebbed and flowed over MANY paths through the years! Shortly after that…life changed again, and I met my wife (now ex-wife). During that time for about a week straight…EVERY single night…I was having dreams about dragons! Not destructive fire breathing monsters burning down villages you see in movies. I was friends with dragons and rode several flying through the air! Back on the internet I went and came across Dancing with Dragons by D.J. Conway and ordered it to be read and dissected! And my life was forever changed in 2001. Then we had a son…then a daughter…and had our little family going so everything jumped to the back seat a little bit! A few years after that…my wife and I divorced. And to my surprise, she didn’t want the kids (long story). So, there I was…a single Dad with a 4-year-old son and a 1-year-old daughter on my back! Everything…and I mean EVERYTHING…was put on the back burner once again! At least until they were a little older.
I had worked my way up to a Security Manager of a local casino and decided the security business was no place for a single Dad (lots of take downs, arrests, and so on). On to the next journey…nursing school where I’m now an RN (registered nurse). Yes…I’m a male nurse. Or as I tell people…a Murse!!!
Through the years…I kept searching the internet, went back to Dancing with Dragons to read it again, and began expanding my library! I eventually joined Ancient Order of Druids in America (AODA) in 2007…began a personal correspondence with its top dog…author John Michael Greer…and I was hooked on Druidry. It was the only thing that made sense out of YEARS from reading and studying! Over the last couple of years, I’ve been VERY drawn to anything Nordic. I swear Thor and Freya spoke to me one night while watching TV during a thunderstorm!!! Over the years…my kids have seen me dibble and dabble and have asked questions. They currently call me a Viking Druid! They’re 20 (almost 21) and 18 so they have “adult opinions”!
In addition to the wild ride above…I also own my own side business. Dragon’s Den Gemstones was born from having too many rocks in my collection. Let me rephrase that because you can never have too many rocks! I was a rockhound as a kid and it never went away. Once the internet became a thing and online shops showed up…I went overboard. I finally realized I didn’t need 10 of every type of rock so I began selling my excess to buy what I didn’t have. That evolved into Dragon’s Den Gemstones that will be celebrating its 5th year anniversary in March 2024!
To sum up the “path” side of myself! I’m a Viking Druid…it works, and I like the title my kids gave me! I follow a druid path and study Norse Mythology with a dragon magick side dish. I’m also interested in Egyptian and Celtic Mythology…with some Greek Mythology thrown in. I like them all. As I tell people all the time, there are many roads up a mountain, but they ALL lead to the top! I use the magick of stones/rocks as well as the elements in just about everything I do. I even have an elemental pentacle tattoo! I dabble with some minor spells here and there but it’s not an everyday thing. I don’t really like rituals even though I’ll participate occasionally.
As for a personal life…what is that??? I’m still single! I work nights and stay on that schedule when I’m off. I read every chance I get whether it be fiction or non-fiction. Sometimes, I’m reading 3 books at once. Sitting for 12 hours straight watching movies is a talent I’m proud of! I used to garden, planting just about everything (will NEVER plant sweet potatoes again because they take over the whole garden)! I’m currently converting my vegetable garden into a berry garden, so it isn’t as much work pulling weeds and such. I will have blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries when it’s complete. A lot of my free time is spent working on Dragon’s Den Gemstones. In addition to my website, I attend fairs and festivals from April to October and set up my tents for a weekend. I started off with a 10x10 tent and currently have two 10x20 tents that go side by side with a dozen tables…so I have expanded quite a bit over 5 years. My favorite part of it is I sell and crack geodes!! I love cracking something open that has never been seen!! For the one FUN thing I do…I also DM (dungeon master) a Dungeons and Dragons session every two weeks for my kids and their friends. Well…that’s my life in less than two pages! If you made it this far! Thanks…and howdy!
